Is you chronic Tinea or Fungal Nail Infection a sign of something more sinister?

As a Podiatrist I see many people that suffer from chronic Tinea and fungal nail infections. Often these people have tried all manner of topical treatments, laser and oral anti fungals without success or only to have it return again at a later stage. Many people don't realise they maybe fighting a silent battle with an evolutionarily advanced opportunistic pathogen that they are unknowingly feeding. When we are healthy we all have a normal small amount of yeast, (including candida) in our body. This is usually kept in balance by the good bacteria in our guts, but once factors like stress, a bad diet or illness compromise our immune systems, candida spreads and takes over the immune system. This can be made even worse by antibiotics and oral steroids which aren't just useless against fungal infections... they actually make them grow like weeds! So what's so bad about a fungal infection you may ask? What most people including many doctors don't realise is, that something as small as a persistent tine or yeast infection can signal a fungal overgrowth inside your body. Not only can this cause symptoms that mimic all kinds of common conditions because fungus can reach every organ and system in you body, it can even make you more prone to CANCER. Researchers have known for decades that fungal pathogens are linked to cancer even though many doctors still consider serious fungal infections the result of a compromised immune system in cancer patients. These pathogens attach themselves to normal healthy tissue anywhere in your body then strangle and suffocate your cells with tentacle-like roots called rhizoids. They don't need oxygen to survive and they damage the DNA of the cells where they take root and can even mutate in ways that fool the immune system so it can't destroy them... just like cancer. Fungi also secrete poisonous carcinogenic waste products called mycotoxins which, even at low levels, can cause disease. As it gets more wide spread in your system, the fungi secrete other chemicals that destroy the enzymes needed for cellular energy and it releases the free radicals that cause premature aging. It also makes it difficult for your body to absorb iron and oxygenate you fully which makes your body a fertile environment for cancer growth. This is why researchers have found fungal infections present in at least 88% of patients participating in clinical studies. Because of its ability to spread to your bloodstream and invade your vital organs, including your brain, it can cause hundreds of different symptoms that don't seem related to each other. These can include:

  • Heartburn, indigestion, bloating or irritable bowel syndrome

  • Frequent sore throat, mouth sores or a white coating on the tongue

  • Frequent UTI's

  • Persistent nail and foot fungal infections

  • Chronic headaches, ear pain or sinus infections

  • Frequent cough or asthma bouts

  • Cravings for sugar, alcohol, carbs

  • Depression, anxiety and/or "brain fog"

  • Chronic yeast infections

  • Muscle aches, fatigue and arthritis

  • Skin rashes, itching, acne

  • Chronic pain or fibromyalgia symptoms

  • PMS

  • Foot Odour

If you have any/many of these problems there is a simple test you can do at home to use as a starting point to reveal if you may have candida/high levels of yeast. Here's how to do it: THE CANDIDA SALIVA TEST

  • When you first wake up, don't spit, rinse, brush your teeth, or drink anything. Instead, fill up a clear glass of water.

  • Spit into the glass and wait 15 minutes.

  • Examine the glass.

  • Look for stringy legs and cloud-like specks. Cloudy saliva may settle at the bottom of the glass.

It's normal if your saliva starts to sink after a few minutes. Small legs or specks here and there are also normal. But they should appear to dissolve into the water. If they look like the diagram below, it could indicate yeast overgrowth.

Although this test can reveal excess yeast, it's not 100% reliable. If you have positive results for this test, make an appointment with your GP to have lab tests done. If these lab tests are positive it's then a matter of embarking on a candida killing protocol that involves 3 main steps:

  1. Stop feeding them, this requires eliminating grains, sugars, alcohol and minimising carbohydrates.

  2. Kill them by using natural immunotherapy supplements that kill fungal pathogens before they turn into cancer. Oral anti fungal medications are effective but can have serious side effects like liver damage and, just like other drugs stop working as fungi become more resistant.

  3. Clean them out of your body with exercise and antioxidants.
